I've discovered A Great Truth. It is probably old news to most of the planet, but here goes: How lousy a cold makes me feel is directly connected to how much pain I'm in. Before you say "Duh!" let me continue with the thought.

Sore throat? Not so bad. Hot tea or no swallowing.

Runny nose? Sometimes inconvenient, but tissues deal with it.

Tired all the time? Suck it up. Jet lag is tiring, too.

Coughing? Hate the tickle in my throat as I try to go to sleep, but really more of an annoyance for those arround me. And hey, good ab workout.

Lost voice? Only seems to happen when I'm teaching. Sounds terrible but doesn't feel so bad.

No, my cold kicks into "It's bad, really bad. Just leave me alone." when the headache appears. The top of my head wants to come off or my sinuses decide that underneath my cheekbones is simply not enough space. NOW, now The Cold begins. *rub cheekbones*

I'd like to be alone in a warm dark room with an endless supply of hot tea, now. Is that too much to ask?

Drugged to my eyeballs is evidently the way to fly. The world has a distant fuzziness that I have to think will improve the experience of being crammed into a metal tube with 300 strangers.

Being platinum rocks! I got to use the 1st class line to check in (no echeck possible for international flights). Then my checked bag was clearly 5.5 lbs over the usual limit... No comment was even made. And then when my paranoid, "So I have aisle seats the whole way, right?" met with a "No, your 9 hour flight has you by a window." it was FIXED. Totally fixed. No insisting I deal with it later or negotiate with the other airline. I love being platinum.

I've been enjoying an extended vacation at home for several weeks.  Still healing, exercising with T, doing my more artistic hobbies, it has been really peaceful.

But yesterday I had a persistent headache that Duane pronounced as "not stress or tension.  Are your sinuses clogged?"  I took a painkiller and a decongestant, and tried to go on a date night with T.  I spent the entire time still with the headache, thirsty, a mild sore throat, and just enough nauseous to make me not want to move very quickly.  Hot tea and not moving made it much better, but.... I'm back to wondering if what it is.  Is this the flu, a cold, or allergies?  I do have allergies, but this is not their usual impact on me.  Several of my local friends have had the flu (or a cold) in the past few weeks... Perhaps I caught it?
