Dinner on the QM2 is one of the things we anticipate with pleasure.

This trip one of our dinner companions was a professional photographer, retired. He was German and had excellant English. I asked him about traveling, customs, difficulty with security... He talked about Indian security wiping many rolls of precious film with their xray machines. It was lovely.

One night he brought a book of his personal photographs from traveling for work in the US in the 60s.

So today as I reconnect with the internet, I googled him. He has a wiki page. A really extensive wiki page. Now if I could only get it in English (instead of German), I might brag further about the people I know.... *grin*

T and I note that WE do not have wiki page. We are not that important. *smile*

Ever been on a stupendously large boat that is pitching up and down in 12 meter seas? There are two places you can really enjoy the sensation: the bow and the stern. The center of the ship does not move as much. T says something about lever arms.

Luckily our cabin is as far back as possible. Lying in bed, one moment you are light as a feather, followed shortly by a giant hand pressing you down.

Stairs are interesting during variable gravity. Sometimes we spring lightly up the stairs, followed immediately by grunting with effort to get up a single step.

T likes the long hallways: He bounds like a gazelle...Followed by staggering like a drunken turtle. For me, walking down the halls is a weaving dance as the floor shifts in seemingly random directions. Heels (formal dinners!) make the shifts in gravity more dangerous.

I am not a water person. [livejournal.com profile] raaga123 invites us to a pool party and I spend the entire time inside, clothed, reading. Lots of sun and water just do not attract me. And, ok, the water kinda scares me.

However... One of my favorite places on Earth is the Queen Mary 2... with high seas... and me in the pool. I want the seas to be high enough to drive everyone else to their cabins and make the pool vary between my waist and over my head.

So this week on the Queen Mary 2... in November, crossing the Atlantic (=cold!)...

During lunch today we sat by a window and watched people walk by in coats, their clothes and hair blowing in the wind. They looked cold. But there was this (lone) crazy old guy who came and jumped in the outdoor hot tub. he had to hold onto his hat an dshoes to keep them from blowing away. Our waiter said that the pool is heated, too.

So hours later as the waves got stronger I dragged T up to the indoor pool. Empty. NoooOOOooooooooooooOOOOOOoooooooooooOOO *deep breath*oooooooOOOOooooooooOOOOooooooooooooooooooOOOOooooooo!!!

So I proposed we go to the outside pool. T was against it in general, but allowed himself to be dragged. Wearing only swimsuits and a towel we went outside. This involved two outdoor staircases, water running over the deck under our bare feet, a fair amount of cursing and many claims by T that it was "All [my] fault."

I got in the pool and said, "it is sorta warm."

T stuck one toe in, "No way!" and went to sit in the hot tub. After about 5 minutes enjoying the waves and sprouting goosebumps in unmentionable places, I joined him. I think the walk from the pool to the hot tub was the coldest I have ever taken.

After I warmed up, the waves in the pool called me back. I went back and forth... Pool, cold scurry, hot tub, pool, cold scurry, hot tub, pool, cold scurry, hot tub. T said, "You are totally nuts."
