Four point five hours. Solid.

No, you are right, there were the five minute intervals in which a sympathetic flight attendent took the small demon for a walk. All Too Brief.

Ok, why did mom get a glass of wine to chug while baby is away? She has had 6 months to get used to this life! It is the REST of us that need the sympathy!

It seems like it is only new mothers traveling alone-with-baby for the first time that I encounter. After the first nightmare trip, do the other ones flat refuse to travel without a second pair of hands? Hmmmm....

The flight

In some ways, this is the Best Flight Ever from Europe back to the US.  I got THREE SEATS to myself.  Four blankets, three pillows... How awesome is that?!

In other ways... *sigh*  There is a small child...  Well, there are many small children on this flight.  But one in particular has been screaming or talking nonsense really loudly for FIVE HOURS.  Solid.  And her voice is that exact pitch that cuts through my noise-reducing headphones and music and the roar of the engine.

Considering how well behaved the other children are... Did mom not bring enough toys?  Is the kid spoiled so rotten that all attempts to quiet her are doomed to failure?  I see mom following the kid up and down the aisle (a 45 second experience in silence).

Seriously. The kid has woken me up three times now.  And I do not go to sleep easily (without drugs. No drugs for use on return flight.).  I feel that I have a right to be cranky about this.  Ok, not to actually SAY anything to the mom, but I am thinking Dark Thoughts loudly.

I have been on long flights, short flights, delayed flights, rushed flights, flights with screaming babies, flights without AC, flights so bumpy I got airsick (and it takes a LOT to do that), flights where the co-pilot was the closest thing to a stewardess...  But this is my first flight with a narrator.

I take aisle seats when I have a choice.  The person in my window seat has chosen to keep the shade down, so I can only tell that it is daylight.

However, because of the flight narrator, I learned that while we waited on the runway three other flights took off.   We did not like that.  We should be first.

We were clearly informed the moment we started moving down the runway.  I am quite positive that our plane gained speed only because of progressively louder urging.

And the second we separated from the ground?  Also carefully announced. Such events are easy to miss without the verbal component.

I am now to understand that we are inside a cloud.  This was repeated several times.  I'm not sure if it was multiple clouds or just for those in the audience not listening the first time.
