"I had a flat today on my way to lunch."

This sentence completely fails to convey the mind-numbing stretch of minutes and hours WAITING for other people to DO THINGS.  Mysterious things.  Expensive things.  But clearly things that should Not Take This Long.

Ugh.

Is that a picture of your actual tire? Because that is not a flat tire, it is a dissected tire. It is a "good-bye, nice knowing you, why did you have to be such a drama queen about your stage exit?" sort of tire. You had to get a whole new one (or more) and get it attached and then get things balanced an maybe rotated.

Welcome home, and I hope you at least had some good reading with you.

No clue. *bewildered look* I mean, with that kind of damage, could it be that I rolled over something? Seems unlikely.

The roadside assistance guy hinted that it was the fault of wrong inflation but (a) that should have been checked in a recent expensive car maintenance and (b) ??? No way it was THAT under/over inflated without us noticing.

Faulty tire manufacture? In any case, I'm glad you didn't get hurt! That could have been disastrous (or at least it looks that way)!

Yup. That is a picture of my Actual Tire. *sigh/laugh*

I had extensive amounts of time to read my book and be very grateful for the rare 73F and sunny.

Do you have a spare tire in your car? I thought that you knew how to change a tire yourself. I guess I figure that every one who has ever had a crappy car in their past has learned how to change a tire. My first car that I bought for myself had to have every single tire changed within the first year. However, I really sympathize with you. Waiting sucks, especially if you don't have a book with you and it is hot.

I have a spare tire. I have helped others change tires in the past, though never changed one by myself before.

But... in more wealthy year I paid a lot of money to have Service. Concierge service, monitored alarm service, roadside assistance... Pretty much anything I want. With a button push, I get a voice inside the car that says, "How may I help you today, Ms Rose? Our computers show you at the following location..." I asked at the time what "concierge service" means, and flowers, movie tickets, theatre tickets and lots of "etc" were mentioned. *goggle eyes* With a different button, I get the police to my location, no questions asked. Evidently the rich Live Well.

I watched what the roadside asst guy did. By breaking out the manual, I probably could have done it myself with a LOT more effort, sweat, and frustration. My understanding is that the stuff in my trunk is a bare bones version of what is necessary to change the tire. He used a car lift and an air pump, both that he brought with him. He also used a LOT of kicking to get the tire off. Evidently my car is the wrong kind for the whole tire rotation thing (two different kinds of tires front and back), so the car can rust to the tire. Mine did. Ugh.
