Made it to Scotland
Jan. 19th, 2008 05:00 pmWith luggage not in the original condition. Contents seem ok, but my bag... It is a hard sided rolling bag, with a pull handle up top. Evidently the baggage handlers for FLYBE (yes, I hope they are reading this!!!) Airlines pulled the handle up, then left it up while it was being tossed around. When it arrived on the carousel in Glasgow, the handle was still up and my best efforts would not make it go down.
If I had figured out the problem in time, I would have complained. But I didn't figure it out until I was already on the bus out of the airport. They bent the handle. Oh, not enough to be visually displeasing, just enough that it will not retract into the case. So my suitcase will no longer... Fit into a car. Store properly. Allow people to walk by on the airport bus. The handle itself is quite thick. I have to imagine that an amazing amount of force was exerted to bend it.
I've tried laying the case down and standing on both sides of the bent handle in an effort to bend it back. I marked the handle to see if I had improved the retraction. Absolutely no change. Got any ideas how I can fix this enough to get it home? I'm worried that the airlines may object if I try to bring it home. And buying a suitcase here.... Not my favorite thought. Can I mention the lousy currency exchange rate?
