On the road again...
Jun. 10th, 2007 11:48 amI don't think I had enough nesting time at home.
I mean, sure, I cleared up 20 hours on the DVR, mowed the lawn, allowed the cat to shed on me, did at least 4 loads of laundry, and completely unpacked from my previous three back-to-back trips, but it still wasn't enough. I didn't have enough time to sleep in fully or to get bored.
This week I'm visiting the East Coast on a work trip that happily allows me a few hours with
ovrclokd and
thebroomecloset. They have an amazing array of kitchen gadgets that makes me envious... of their storage. I tried to describe to T their salad spinner, garlic chopper and knife sharpener, but I don't think I conveyed the magnitude of it all. And by "magnitude," I mean "sheer number and coolness."
And can I mention that they are outdoors fanatics? They dragged me kicking and screaming (ok, maybe not the screaming part) out to a river and made me walk beside it. The shade was deep, it had just rained and the air smelled very.... green. They chose a time of day that it was still pleasantly cool. We didn't hike very quickly, because the dog had to stop and sniff everything. They pointed out dragonflies, butterflies, fish and attempted to find turtles.
ovrclokd had a pair of binoculars that she kept lending me to see all of the tiny live things at a distance. I'm not sure what I'm going to inflict on them to pay them back for this Extreme Torture! *grin* Perhaps large amounts of BBQ?
Then they found a box turtle out beside their house. I questioned the whole "box" nature of the turtle, it looking quite round to me. But they insisted that box or not, the appropriate thing to do was to feed it blackberries. Then they fed it blackberries while videotaping the eating of the blackberries. It was a very cute turtle, even on film.
Crazy outdoors people. I don't normally encounter turtles, box or otherwise.
