Five days of darkness
Dec. 7th, 2007 11:52 amOn Monday I did not see daylight.
On Tuesday, I saw it through a distant window.
On Wednesday and Thursday I stood in front of the window for 2 minutes and gazed out on a gray day. The grass was green in front of the window, but the sky was gray.
Today. Today I went outside into the daylight for the first time. I drove away from work through gray that was just light enough not to need headlights for the first time since Sunday. Back at the hotel, I changed into more regular clothes and hurried outside, just to prove to myself that the sky is not always black. I had perhaps 45 minutes of the dim before night fell. It was a nice night --- only in the 40s with the wet making it feel like the mid-30s. The wind was not making me walk like a drunkard or threatening to tear my bag from my grasp. It was almost nice! Relatively speaking, of course.
