Building learnings, continued
Jan. 20th, 2008 04:19 amThere are several things to learn in my Scottish hotel room.
- Do not put a light directly over the shower. It may look fine if you are standing outside the shower, but actually in the shower it means that you feel as if a light is shining directly in your eyes All The Time.
- Large showers are nice. Potential for sharing a shower?
- Small tiles cover the walls of the large shower look very nice. Discuss with other house owners to see if this increases the cleaning difficulty.
- Explore shower head possibilities. This one has a regular shower head, then the shower unit has pairs of metal... nipples going down the wall. Yes, nipples. I don't know how else to describe them. Four pairs of them. And with the turn of a nipple-specific knob, they spray water. Now I would want the pairs of nipples to start about an inch lower on the wall (spraying my face is not cool), but otherwise... they are intriguing. I do appreciate that the nipple heads have a small amount of direction adjustment.
- Towel warming rack. Very nice for warmer climates, though not necessary in Texas. Though, in this particular hotel, it would be handy if it worked.
- Storage. The French hotel was very pretty to look at, but had no drawer space and only tall narrow shelves. This is not convenient for people staying a week in a hotel. I'm thinking that our guest room should have at least two empty drawers for our guests.
My parents have the "nipples"

Date: 2008-01-20 06:12 pm (UTC)having a shower large enough for two people is definitely a plus. we don't shower together incredibly often, but when we do, it's always fun!
staying a week in a hotel, the thing i usually miss is hangers! hotels usually give you enough for a couple of outfits, not a whole week's worth. and calling to ask housekeeping for more is always an adventure - sometimes i ask for blouse hangers and get pants hangers, sometimes cheap wire hangers instead of the wooden ones...
i think my favorite idea swiped from a hotel is the crescent shower rod in our guest bathroom. it's just so nice not to have a damp shower curtain sticking to my elbows! we added a stop to the door hinge to keep the door from hitting it, and it doesn't take up nearly as much room from the outside as it adds from the inside (subjectively, of course).

We also stole our guest bath crescent shower rod idea from a hotel. Your example didn't hurt, either. *smile* Good ideas spread.
