We set out in search of lunch today.  T was in search of a restaurant, but kept skipping every one we passed.  After the 10th, I decided that we should have pain au chocolate at the next pastry shop.  And something else at the pastry shop after that.  Subsequently, I decided we were stopping at EVERY pastry shop until he settled on a restaurant.  He didn't.

Four hours later, neither of us were hungry.

Mmmmmmmm. Eating from every pastry shop I pass in France. Sounds like a delightful solution to me!! Europeans know pastry.

While I was studying London, I had to cross a busy street every morning on my way to school. At that corner was a pastry shop that must've vented their ovens' exhaust directly onto the waiting street-crossers. I rarely made it past that pastry shop if I had *any* time to spare before class. Ahhhhh, the steak pies, curry puffs, hot buns, ham rolls....heavenly.

I hope that you are both having a lot of fun. And that you have also found several restaurants that are as good as the pastry shops!

*laugh* It really was terrific. When I got something good (half the time I had no idea what I was ordering), we each got to taste. And when the item turned out to only be so-so, then it wasn't so big as to overwhelm.

I think my walk to work tomorrow will not cross any pastry shops, happily. And perhaps when it is still dark they will be closed.

Last night T finally chose a restaurant. I was ready with my pastry shop plan. *grin*

It was kinda like a bar, but with a restaurant. We ordered the flat rate 19Euro menu and it felt very traditional French. The appetizer had snails and mushrooms and tomatoes and pastry (YUM!). The entree had yummy potato and quiche-like cakes on the, while being duck. I liked the duck part, and ate the more cooked edges where it was waved next to a flame. When I discovered the raw hunk in the middle I just gave it to T, who seemed to appreciate it far more than me. Yes, I'm sure raw meat is a delicacy, but I just cannot eat it. Dessert for me was a molten chocolate cake, but T won that one with soft cookie-like things enclosing chocolate mousse.

I hope you have tried the chocolat chaud. It does not have sugar in it, you put it in yourself, so you are never overwhelmed with sugar as happens here.

No, not yet. What is chaud? Where would I find it?

It is hot chocolate. You can usually find it in the cafes and some pastry shops. I love the pastry shops in Paris. J and I went to Laduree. It is the home of the macaroon. They have about 30 flavors including dark chocolate and pistachio - some of my favorites. Also flower flavors like violet and rose.
