I'm beginning to hate the JFK airport. Our direct 12:30pm flight home got delayed to 12:45pm. Then 1pm. Then 2pm. Then canceled. No explanation ever given.

Seats on the 6pm flight were handed out only to others without any comprehensible method. We can get home only by flying through Atlanta, flying in to a different city, renting a car, driving 1.5 hours to our local airport, dropping off the rental car picking up our car, and driving another 45 min home. Our scheduled direct flight would have had us landing at 3:50pm, home before 5pm. We may get home before midnight.

Don't get me started about the JFK women's bathrooms! They are worse than DFW.

Sacrificed food at the alter of the possibility of a direct flight home from Atlanta. Being on standby, not sure if both of us would make the flight... Very tense stuff. But we both got on the flight, though in very different seats.

Leaving at 6:50pm... Then 7pm. ...Then a mechanical failure... Then 7:40pm, and our other flight possibility is already lost.

At 7:50pm the estimate became "shortly."

Doomed.

We made it to our airport by 10:15pm local time. Our luggage even made it. Wow. But clearly too good to last.. Because in the parking lot my car was hit. AND THE OTHER CAR WAS STILL THERE. *bang head on hood of car* No probable damage to THEIR enormous monstrosity of a vehicle, but mine? *grind teeth*

A police report later, we did make it home before midnight. Barely.

reyn note from tiger stripes- we have long distance with Working Assets carrier, i think they use sprint's lines. We have no charge or fee or bill with 'no usage' in the mail for that carrier.
normally we use our cells for long distance, but during hurricanes the cells often don't work. Until the landlines go out, we can usually use it and that's the only time we've ever had to pay, and that's six years with working assets. :)
