I know, just the one or two if you are male.

But I had a lot.  A whole lot.  And none of them fit.  So I threw them all out (or stored the pretty little-worn ones for "someday I'll be that size again") and bought new.  $250 and 20 bras later....  I was in shock.  I previously had way more bras than this.

Yeah, they really cost this much.  And I bought 15 of them at a heavy discount!

Before you think thoughts like "Do you really need that many?" I'll say two things:
  1. Four of them were for work, in three different colors.  Very useful.
  2. For the remaining 16....  let me remind you that I live in Texas.  We have two seasons:  Summer and Other.  During the summer, it is often the case that bras must be washed with every wearing.  That would be at least one, sometimes two in a day.  I bet you own more than 16 shirts...
As I was checking out, the "bra expert" told me that they strongly recommend that each bra only have a wearing life of 6 months.

6 Months!!!

$250!!!

wow

I have maybe half a dozen "every day" bras, and I'm shocked that you can find yours so inexpensively. Where do you shop? I usually buy bras when I happen across the Victoria's Secret two for one sale, but I think they are still about twice as much as you paid.

It strikes me that I probably have significantly more of the fancy bras that I never wear than the plain jane ones that I actually do. :-)

There is a local outlet mall. I bought the more expensive work ones at L'eggs Bali Hanes store, and most of the non-work cheaper ones at the Jockey store.

My theory is that the fancy ones accumulate. I think I actually throw out the plain more-worn ones more frequently.

of course a bra store clerk will tell you to replace your bras every 6 months. realistically, i figure the lifespan of a bra is "until the elastic wears out and it's no longer supportive/comfortable." and since i wash mine in cold water, delicate cycle, and woolite, that usually means two or three years, especially since i have enough (9 at the monent) that they rest several days between wearings.

i hit the vickie's semi-annual sale every few years and stock up on whatever is on clearance in my size. haven't tried the outlet route, but i'm due for a replacement run sometime soon myself. maybe while you're visiting? (unless you're bra-shopped out by now...)

I always wear them until visible "wearing out" stage. But I have to wonder how often they think we will wear them when they make up these statistics. Do they think I'm going to be wearing this bra every single day?

So if I have 20 bras, and each of them has 6 months of wearing-life in them, that means if I alternate I could wear them all for about 10 years!

Clearly a scam to get us to buy more.
