Yahoo mail
May. 13th, 2007 08:54 pmTried the new Yahoo beta mail?
The new interface was ok, but the drawbacks made me return to the original version.
- When I tried to open my mail on a different computer, half of the time it would lecture me that my browser is too old and insist I use the original Yahoo mail. An extra time-consuming step. Bleh.
- Every action I took involved a popup menu telling me how to do it "better." Yes, I think I could individually turn them off, but I never learned the shortcuts and thus felt duty-bound to leave them on until I did. But the constant idiot reminders were grating.
- Connecting on my Treo went weird. At first it would be stubborn but still open. Last week it stopped allowing me in. I was connected to the web, the Treo was fine, but Yahoo mail would give me a login page or a blank page.
- The breaking point for me was when Yahoo beta mail chat-enabled me. Without my permission. I tried to opt out and it simply freaked. In general, I like options, but forcing this on me? No.
