taxes are evil
Mar. 22nd, 2007 08:00 pmIn 2006 while doing my 2005 taxes, I was audited for my 2004 taxes.
In 2006 with my 2005 taxes almost finished, companyB forgot to send me a 1099. I requested one with increasing persistence until they at last emailed me one just a few days before April 15. Then I discovered that they had included all of the expenses I had charged the company as "income" to me. So at the very last second, I had to dig up a ton more paperwork and itemize those expenses on my taxes.
In Jan 2007, I got ahead on my 2006 taxes. I included companyB's expenses in my itemized listing.
In Feb 2007, I discovered that companyB had decided not to include their expenses as part of my income. So I had to redo all of the expenses. *minor cursing under breath*
It is now March 2007. I'm thinking about filing my taxes. Just to be sure, I pulled my printout from last year and compared them side by side. And found that I am missing the IRA distribution from my father. Last year, I got a 1099-R from MFS. But not this year. Since I got a check from them, I cannot file my taxes without this information. A phone call later, they will fax it to me (but I do not have a functional fax machine). They are happy to snailmail it to me. Which will take additional time.
*general grinding of teeth* Could this ever be easy?!?
