Someone else's Winter wonderland
Dec. 1st, 2006 07:16 pmEarly this morning I checked the weather in Chicago for my layover on my way to Ireland. Snow, lots of snow. Ack!
So while trying to teach a class (nice, flexible students!!!) I called the travel people and asked "Is there anything you can do?" Not that I expect them to change the weather... But couldn't I travel through some other city? Some city not covered in ice and snow? Some city that has planes landing and leaving on time?
Evidently, yes. But it will cost me four more hours of my life. Not counting the hours I spent on the phone arranging the change. And it will probably cost me my checked piece of luggage. *sigh* Well, I don't check luggage that often. I'm just admitting that I cannot pack winter clothes, weekend clothes, two weeks of work clothes, and two weeks of tools for work in a single carry-on plus laptop case. *sigh* Oh, well. Count on it arriving 36 hours later. What do I really NEED between now and Tuesday that is allowed on planes to the UK?
Back to throwing items in suitcases and mourning my lost freedom to sleep late in my own bed, much less my own time zone.
