I saw a comedian recently who pointed out that as a society we have decided to no longer answer our phones.

But why?!?!

I grew up with my parent's landline as the sole means of communication between me and my best friend. As a teenager, I fell asleep with the phone held to my head.

And yet now I just don't answer the phone?! When did I stop? ....I think it was the day that someone told me that the act of answering the phone gives spammers permission to crank up their phone calls to my number.  That by me saying "Hello?" they now have a "relationship" with me and thus can and will call more frequently and persistently.

So just as that comedian said... I now no longer answer any number I do not recognize.

Someone offering me a job? Your phone call better be from your business, and it better show up on my caller id. A friend calling in desperation from a pay phone? They better leave a Really Detailed Message.

Spam phone calls. Spam phone calls has driven me to no longer answer ANY phone call from a number I do not recognize. In the last 20 phone calls I received on my phone, 11 were spam.

Yes, I'm on the do-not-call list. I have no idea how much that helps.
