soggy dirt
Aug. 28th, 2017 03:40 pmThursday and Friday I moved dirt from the ditch to the flowerbed in a frantic attempt to build up dirt around our foundation before the storm hit. Friday I actually went out and moved dirt twice. Morning as the sun rose, and evening as the sun went down. I lost count how many (small, because I can't move a full wheelbarrow) wheelbarrows of dirt I dragged up that hill out of the ditch as dusk fell Friday night. At least five... Maybe six? My hands hurt just thinking about it.
T made it home Friday night safely. Yes, I was worried. Then the storm hit in full force...The rain was persistent and the wind quite hard. Our back door faces North, and we discovered that it leaks. We have a back porch, but steady hard wind blows rain sideways under the porch roof and through the door. I went through four thick towels over the weekend, soaking up the water coming through the door. Weirdly, water came through the lock as well as between the doors. No permanent damage, I think, but I do want to reevaluate the installation of the lock and the weatherstripping.
We stayed in and did small house tasks. He finished installation of a doornob in our attic. I spackled, sanded, and painted small damaged bits around the house. Cleaning the brush was a challenge. The septic system means we can't put the paint down the sink. And the wild winds and rain meant trying to wash the brush off outside was.... Well, let's just say I got quite wet along with the brush and leave it at that.
And then we looked at each other and said "Now what?" We generally have a long list of weekend tasks, none of which we could do. No grocery run, no recycling run, no dinner with Dad... So we caught up on Gotham, watched the new Tick (not bad), and started watching The Expanse. It was... peaceful.

The new Tick
Date: 2017-08-29 06:31 pm (UTC)So the new one is.... different. I love whoever is doing the Terror. That actor must be having a fabulous time. And they introduced a new character -- Miss Lent. She is fantastic. The guy doing the Tick is.... really good. Surreal in that way that I'm not sure if his character is supposed to be bug nuts or an inspiration. Maybe both. I'd say Arthur is a darker character than he is usually portrayed. They took a different angle on him and while I think his character fits the new show pretty well, I'm not sure I like him. So overall... a little darker, yes. But not hugely so.
