Week 4: Paris Day 1 teaching

Some thoughts on being in Paris:
* I love the fact that I'm walking to work. I would hate to drive here.
* Walking to work in the morning at about 7:30am is really quiet. There are a lot of people, but they are amazingly silent. Unlike walking back to my hotel in the evening, when they were chattering and talking on their phones. Not morning people here.
* This morning as I tried to get into work, I realized I was sitting next to an anti-t sign. It was all in French, of course, but it was clearly directions on what to do in case the worst happens. My favorite one was the image that clearly said "do not run at the police who are trying to rescue you."
* As I walked back to my hotel this evening, there were waves of highly armed military walking the other way. Highly armed. Waves. They just seemed to be walking...

Hunh. It never occurred to me that a city would be quiet during morning commutes, but I expect it's the same everywhere. People are in a grumpy rush in the morning while in the evening they are free and making plans and taking care of family/meals/friends.
