Letters from the IRS
May. 17th, 2017 07:39 amI have been paying estimated taxes every year since about 2004.
This year, in addition to my taxes and my brother's taxes, I also modified my taxes (stupid form arrived 2 days after I filed. Grr.). And then I paid my estimated taxes, all in time for April 15-ish. All of that was fine and pretty typical.
What is weird is that now I'm getting letters from the IRS. First it was 2 letters, a separate one to T and me. The 2 letters said that they had gotten our modification to our taxes, that we so far do not owe anything and that it will take them a month or so to reconcile everything. I had only modified my taxes once before, so perhaps these letters are normal?
Then last night I got another envelope (2 copies of the letter inside!) acknowledging the receipt of our estimated taxes. This is completely weird! I've paid estimated taxes for at least 13 years. I have NEVER gotten a letter confirming the receipt of my estimated taxes. NEVER.
What is going on?!
