Last night I quit work at the usual time and made dinner. After dinner we sat in front of the TV. T wrote house-related emails, I tried to troubleshoot his phone and we watched old Colbert episodes (we are about 2 weeks behind). It was lovely. I spent the entire time fiercely not thinking about my to-do list.

But I am in a constant state of feeling like I am behind. Not doing tasks. So here are some of the many things we need to do:

  • I need to finish hanging art in my office. I've done a pretty good job, but there is a huge stack of Elfquest headshots ready to be hung above my closet. I've figured out the spacing, but the 10' ceilings give me the willies. I'm stalling because I just HATE being that high on the ladder.

  • T needs to hang the last of the blinds. With the sale of the house, we went out and bought blinds for the rest of the windows. We have so many windows! So there are blinds for eleven windows sitting in our dining room.

  • Put up texture on the windows in the garage. No, I have no idea why the garage needed windows. I suspect it is a curb appeal thing. But we don't like having anyone able to see in the garage from the outside. And we don't want to pay for blinds or curtains in the garage. And we like having natural light when the sun is up. So we put up this film on the one window that the temporary paper blinds kept falling down, and we liked it. Lets in light, no one can see in (or out). So we bought more film for the other windows. Now we just need to hang it.

  • Hang Huff. Huff is T's dragon head. We have two swords to go under him, which I need to clean (they are a bit rusty) before hanging. We finally found a spot in the public space for him, right next to the full size arcade machine. I might be encouraging a subtle message there.

  • Move dirt to raise the dirt levels but still allow drainage between the house and hanger. Yesterday our builder's guys came out and (surprise to us!) buried our water softener drain line to a leech field. Which is fine, except they took the dirt that was supposed to go between the house and hanger and spread it out in a large area by the house. Which means T will have to somehow move dirt from elsewhere to go between the house and hanger. T was Not Pleased. Communication would have been really nice on this.

  • Move dirt to snug up against the house, hanger, and driveway. The huge amount of landscaping equipment in the past 2 weeks brought the huge clods of dirt NEAR the house, but not right next to it. We spent hours last Saturday trying to move the dirt to smoothly be next to the house, but we only managed a tiny fraction of the back of the house. T spent quite a bit of time trying to make sure that drainage from the gutters goes in a logical path away from the house. He didn't finish, only managed it with 2 of the gutters. We have 10 gutter spouts. And can I mention that the driveway is insanely long? Yeah 4+ acres makes a long driveway. And it would be nice if people (me) accidently driving off the driveway onto the dirt did not bottom out their car (backing in and out of the garage is a huge stresser right now, because my low slung sports car would NOT handle driving off the edge of the driveway well).

  • Cap the PVC under the driveway, put on the gutter drain extender PVC on the other line under the driveway. And bury the PVC extender. We picked up the extendor while the large equipment was moving dirt. But we need to put it back in, glue it on, then bury it. Possibly after taking lots of pictures so we won't try to plant trees on top of it later.

  • Hang art in the master bedroom. We have had the smaller pieces of art leaning against walls throughout the house. I moved some pieces in the master to feel out T's thoughts on whether he could live with them put up in the bedroom. We never really hung much art in our last bedroom, so this is a change. He made some minor adjustments and agreed. So now I need to hang the 6 pieces.

  • Clean the AC drainpan. Check for whatever is rattling the AC and heater. It turns out that we do not want the actual AC unit to be over the master bedroom. Who knew?! We had no idea that the darn thing would be so noisy at full blast. It is a two-stage, so mostly it isn't loud, but when it gears up as we are thinking about not getting up in the morning, it makes this buzzing noise. T is convinced it is something flapping up there. So we should clean out the drainpan and look for whatever is flapping. We probably won't find it, but we can try.

  • Tighten the fans. There are several fans in the house that wobble and make weird noises once they get going. T fixed the ones in the master and my office (high use!), but needs to do the rest. We will care when when it starts really heating up here in April or May.

  • Sweep freaking EVERYTHING. The front porch seems to magically acquire HUGE clods of dirt that both T and I have no idea on the source. Sweep the stairs, as we are still tracking in dust to the attic. Sweep the attic. Sweep the crawl spaces in the attic (our magic pre-move-in cleaner did not do any cleaning in those and they are FILTHY. Anyone who goes to do work on the AC or the electricity comes out DRIPPING of dust and plastic pieces.)

  • Clean the front and back door windows. Our magic cleaner thought those would be replaced and never cleaned them. I've tried soap and water. I next need to get serious with windex and a razer blade.

  • Finish organiziing my office. I have a lovely dresser that has its future contents spread out all over the top of it and down onto the floor. The drawers are almost entirely empty. I still have random boxes of paper sitting on the floor. I pulled some of my drawing stuff from its real home upstairs in the art studio down here so I could grab and use it quickly... but it doesn't really have a place down here. I need to either figure out a home for it or put it back upstairs.

  • T needs to also finish organizing his office. He does not have enough shelf space to unpack all of his boxes, but he hasn't even used the space he does have. I noticed flattened boxes appearing in the laundry room last week, so he is working on it.

So many things still! My sympathies.

At least most of these are one-time things. Mainly the non-dirt things. Dirt is infinite!
