the bulk of paper
Apr. 9th, 2016 05:15 pmIn my cleaning frenzy this week, I went on to review 2 more of my file drawers in my office. I made enough room to fit in all of my brother G's files. *tired happy dance* My head hurts from shredding dust, but it is the pain of success.
It made me think a lot about the things we keep. Things that were important to us recently, even if they will never be important to us again, we keep. I found no less than THREE separate file folders of comics, each from a different time in my life. Yes, comics, mostly from newspapers. Many were sent to me by family or friends, but the statistical ones I mostly cut out for myself. I used to post them on dorm walls, then cubicle walls.
The last time I had a work cubicle was....Jan 2003. For 13 years I've kept files of things to decorate my walls with. 13 years?! It seems crazy now.
The file drawer I went through today had letters. They were filed by person. There were two folders from my mother, one each for my best friends. They took up a half drawer. I found that I couldn't even crack the folders open. I can see that my future executor would just recycle all of them without bothering to read even one. And what am I going to do with them?! Five, ten years in the future.... What use will my future self have for them?
