I just came back from a doctor's visit this morning.  For the first time in about 10 years, I had a doctor tell me, "Yes, there is something seriously wrong with you.  No, it will not kill you or permanently damage your eye sight.  It may be painful.  Since it is not painful now, do not worry about it.  There is nothing we can do now to prevent it from getting worse, and "getting worse" would simply mean that you feel the symptoms."  I walked away with... Nothing. No prescriptions.  No upcoming doom if I don't follow strange directions.

Wow.

Given the length of the quotation, I am surprised a doctor said the same thing to you 10 years ago.

Fine. 10 years ago it was more like, "Go home, drink lots of liquids, and sleep" but had the same element of not giving me drugs or costing me more money.

What's the point of him telling you anything if there's nothing you can do and nothing he can do? Or do you at least now have a name for a condition or something you can look up and see if he's mistaken, or if you should avoid certain medications or increase your carrot consumption?

Yup, a name for the condition. And a list of symptoms to not be surprised by, but to make an immediate appointment so that they can deal with the pain. The extremely horrible, stabbing-in-the-eye pain. *roll eyes* Joy.
