Thanksgiving in the Florida Keys
Nov. 28th, 2015 09:56 pmOn the good side, we got to sleep in several times. The Thanksgiving dinner was tasty. My aunt made me her fantastic key lime pie. Flying to/from Miami was direct and much quicker than any drive to or from Albuquerque.
My aunt and uncle are sadly aging. Slower. They allowed us to drive them around in their cars (much safer than them doing it!!!), but it shows a level of how much they have degraded. They should have moved into the retirement community years ago.
For us it was exhausting, dirty and miserable. We worked for 4 days straight. Hard, long, dirty hours. It was worse on T, but I seem to be the one that caught the cold. Though I'm desperately grateful to have a day at home, I am shy most of my spoons.

Date: 2015-11-30 06:21 pm (UTC)My mother and her sisters all (I think) have reasonably local support systems, thankfully. Though we are sure that Mom will *want* me to come help when she decides where she is going next, she doesn't really need it. Mom's youngest sister is moving into a retirement community in the spring - she has her deposit down and her move-in date - and has enlisted Mom's iPad/email for taking/sending photos of things that she wants to send out to the next generations.
I wonder if Mom/Aunt M are so much more on the ball about retirement communities and next steps because they are single...
