My happiness at an unexpected weekend at home has been overflowing for days.

On last Wednesday, it became clear that our schedule was set to drive to Albuquerque this weekend. I contacted my brother and started work on arranging the hotel. But our favorite hotels were busy. Typical room were going for almost 10x our usual rates. Ack! I asked brother G for an explanation. Balloon Festival, he says. Fine. We delay until next weekend. I look for hotels then. Same problem! Stupid festival lasts for 9 days. So much for us visiting this month.... G, bless him, claims he is fine and anticipating a fiance visit.

So we stayed home.

I was so excited at the idea, I emailed my craft group and invited them for a Friday hanging out/movie night. It was small and lovely. We watched "Age of Adelaide" (don't bother) which I had wanted to see for weeks.

Saturday we slept in. T wanted to watch the game (football, for those of us who only care in as much as it inconveniences us) at 11am with his best friend S. I started cooking egg surprise for breakfast and S called just as T stepped into the shower. Evidently T had not discussed his plan with S. I invited S to breakfast and tossed in two more eggs.

While they cursed at the TV, I pulled weeds in the lawn. The weather was perfect, the cat was thrilled to see me, and my audio book (Weber, first battle of Manticore) was interesting. I pulled weeds for almost 3 hours. My fingers started to blister through the gloves.

We went to lunch, let S go back to his life (the team lost, they were both upset), we went to sit on the porch. Hey, lovely weather like this should be enjoyed! Plus the cat is still forgiving us for our long absence.

T substituted Amy's ice cream for dinner, then took me to REI in time for their garage sale (I spent too much. Shockingly.).

It was lovely and relaxing. We made it to bed by 10pm.

Sunday morning the alarm woke us up. Running day at the gym. We showered in time to meet L at the movie theatre to see The Intern (I liked it. Watch the preview. If you like it, you'll like the movie.). We made a derailed attempt on the grocery store (I've never seen those parking spaces in the back filled up before! ). More porch time, then dinner with Dad.

This is what a weekend is supposed to be like!
