Labor Day Weekend
Sep. 8th, 2015 03:23 pmThe weekend pretty much sucked. The good things about my weekend were... we slept in (for really broad definitions of "in") on Saturday and Sunday mornings.... and we saw our old friends D&R in Albuquerque. They served us a lovely dinner on their back porch Saturday night. It rained. They grilled. The temperature was very pleasant. It was the high point of the weekend. I could tell Sunday morning that spending just a few hours in their company had detectably reduced my physical stress symptoms. They were awesome.
*sigh*
Otherwise...we survived. Cleaned. Repaired. Shredded. Did laundry. And drove for hours and hours and hours. Ugh. Oh, and the drive home turned from 11.5 hours into 12.5 hours. T got a warning instead of a ticket, and thus slowed down 5 mph for the rest of the trip. That was part of the slow down. The other part was that I got the kind of sick that stops at every gas station bathroom for 5 hours. *sigh* Turns out that the gas station drug selection, while wildly overprised is So Worth It.
G was surprisingly good. He is still too thin, but no thinner. He seems to be managing his meds and food and basic care. I encouraged him to consider hiring a weekly or biweekly housekeeper to help him keep up with the household tasks that are beyond his energy. He is between chemos, waiting on his throat to heal. His next (11th) chemo is Sept 14. For him, he seemed surprisingly upbeat and energetic.
The wild news of the weekend is that G asked his girlfriend E to marry him. I am thrilled. I consider her far too good for him. She seems awesome and he is.... I tried listing his best characteristics and "smart" is the only one I can think of. She seems kind, empathic, artistic, organized, clean.... and smart. Maybe she will rub off on him. *Hope, hope*
