Last night I went to the gym to lift weights with T. As I chatted with his workout buddy, I was struck by the fact that I am not in the Philippines. My boss is. My boss is teaching my classes this week. He seems a bit overwhelmed, a lot sleep deprived, but it is working. And I am HERE.

Whew! This makes me so happy!

Work is steady, but not overwhelming. Brother G is still consuming a chunk of my time. But again, it is not overhwhelming. If I was working 13 hour days in the Phililppines, I'm sure I would be sinking fast about now.

T and I have been talking about the weight we gained over Christmas and our Canadian adventure. T's two colds in the past few weeks means he has not been working out as much. The two of us agree that we are horrified at how much weight we have gained. And he is big on motivation. So we have a bet. Today was the weigh-in. For once we are not working toward specific goals, we are simply trying to beat each other. If one of us loses a lot more weight than the other during this time, this could be a big financial hit. I'm already thinking about what foods I'm giving up.... Oh, chocolate, I miss you already.

Be sure to normalize the numbers, to correct for metabolic differences between men and women, and of course look at percentage of total desired weight loss rather than pounds lost. Good luck to both of you--you are the healthiest must motivated people I know, so the weight will be fine in no time! Texpenguin

Wait is the unit of measure for this race? Pounds? Percent weight loss?

1 lb for me, 1.5 lb for him. So if I lose 2 lbs & he loses 3 lbs, we are even and no money changes hands.

Would it be cheating to get your colonoscopy a few years early? I hear that's a pretty effective way to lose weight. Unfortunately, you're probably too young to get your insurance to pay for it.
