back to the travel
Feb. 5th, 2015 09:54 amLast night as I was winding up my evening (= playing games on my tablet) an email came in, requesting I return to the Philippines to teach. I responded that March is a fine time for me to travel for up to 2 weeks and made some logistics suggestions.
Then as I was brushing my teeth I had the full-body sensory memory of what it is like to teach for weeks in the Philippines. Lonely. Insanely long days in which I am On Display in front of a class for 9 hours straight. A huge daily drain of energy. Fighting to get more sleep. Weekdays it always seems to be dark outside -- 5:30am when I go to work and dark again by the time I get back to the hotel. A too-brief daily conversation with T as I am getting ready for work. 15 minutes to talk to my husband? Weekends are long and... lonely. Ugh. I don't want to go. Two weeks sounds like forever.
Then my boss (bless him!) volunteered to teach this round of basic classes. Yay!
