That feeling of accomplishment
Jan. 5th, 2015 05:52 pmWe took off two weeks for the holidays. And for the first time in years, we did not go anywhere. To contribute to my sense of relaxation and accomplishment, the things we did:
What is still left to do?
- Slept in. A lot. This was our first priority, so we paid lots of attention to this.
- Ripped weeds from the lawn. I spent many hours on this over several days. It makes me happy to go past my lawn and think "See, neighbor? See the weeds that COMPLETELY COVER your lawn?! I ripped them out of mine! Gone!" The line of demarkation is extremely obvious. Or it is to me. Now the grass has a chance. The weeds were killing the grass.
- Made Christmas dinner food. I thought my kale went very well with the other dishes present. Yum! There was even a little left over.
- Cleaned lock on front door. Now the door opens without sticking!
- Cleaned bathroom sink (what is that black icky stuff that collects only in my sink?!)
- Made ginger ale syrup in prep for this week.
- Entered a mac & cheese contest for our New Years Eve celebration (we were all winners)
- Sorted books, DVDs & clothes for selling or donation. Sold or donated same.
- Arranged February vacation. No internet! Lots of books!
- Traded in Note 2s for Note 4s.
- Went up in a balloon. Lovely pictures. Spectacular views. I liked the excitement of attempting to land for several miles.
- Arranged April family vacation + used up T's AA miles
- Filled out expense report. I know this seems like a work-related thing, but I discovered that work had consumed all of my house phone minutes in December. So I put that in an expense report. With lots of nasty comments about how I should have a work phone number for incoming and outgoing calls.
- Painted a painting.
- A friend loaned me Bob Ross DVDs. I watched one of them. Hmmm.... I need something called ?liquid? white.... And more brushes.
- Bought lego for husband. Don't mention it to him. It'll be a surprise.
- Cancel something called "visual voice mail" on new phones. Evidently this is something it is easy to accidently turn on... And it costs $3.99/month. What a scam!
- Print a copy of the 2015 recycling schedule to put on the frig.
- Pay estimated taxes for January. Plus the house/land taxes.
- Find a new fun game for my tablet.
- Find some more audiobooks. I just finished rereading the Mercy Thompson series. Must have something else to listen to!
- Read graphic novels.
What is still left to do?
- Choose hotels for the February vacation.
- Arrange cruise for our (20th!!) anniversary this year. We are waffling on what we want to do. Everything sounds "Ok" but nothing truly inspires us.
- Watch more Bob Ross videos.
- Read more graphic novels.

Date: 2015-01-07 05:15 pm (UTC)Searching my bookshelves for old favorites I can buy on audible and reread multiple times... Laurie R King? David Eddings? No Doris Egan on audible?!?!
I feel like I have truly gotten my money out of the Mercy Thompson and Kate Daniels audiobooks. I've gotten to the point that when a new one comes out, I just buy a copy of it to read and a copy to listen to right off.

Date: 2015-01-06 07:23 am (UTC)Todd and I are considering a Northern Lights cruise for his 40th bday this year. Seeing the northern lights is on his bucket list, but I hate the cold, so we figured chasing the lights on a cushy, warm cruise ship might be a good compromise. Pick a theme--any theme--that inspires you and you'll likely find a cruise with that theme! We've seen steampunk cruises, gamer cruises, crafting cruises, etc, etc...
Or, if you like northern lights, join us! We haven't picked the specific trip, but we welcome all of our friends to come along! Dutch, of course... ;-)
