Sometimes even the peon wins
May. 29th, 2014 07:55 amI fly a lot, and I complain about airlines a lot. I've flown enough to be Platinum but often cannot stay on a single airline enough to even get Gold.
I liked Platinum a lot.... The boarding early, the special phone number that got me a human in seconds. The lounge access on all international flights. The automatic rebook on a new flight when a plane was late....
But today I'm a nobody. My flight out of my home airport is going to leave 30 minutes late, making my connection time from a mild challenge of 65 minutes to an unrealistic 25 minutes. I called the I-have-no-status line for AmAir. I fought my way through the automated system (there is, oddly, no option for "I'm going to miss my flight and need you to rebook me") and got a human.
She quickly understood the problem, saying "actually, you would have to teleport across the airport in 15 minutes to make your connection." And she rebooked me on a later flight. *goggle in awe* She even got me an aisle seat. *In shock*
Of course, I don't care that I'm arriving 75 minutes later, as my friend D is not appearing to pick me up for another 5 hours.
That was crazy fast. And easy! I don't think it has ever been that easy outside of when I had Platinum status!
Win!

Date: 2014-05-29 09:12 pm (UTC)I am headed to the Philippines! But.... *sigh* Once again, I had a vacation set up. Days to take off on my calendar. I was going to visit my friend D to meet her fiance. And then they wanted me to be in Manila the next day. So, I'm flying directly from here (DC) to Manila on Sunday. The packing challenge was... Quite Painful. I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of optional items I managed to slip in (pair of sandles, 1 shirt, skort, purse, a tiny bit of epsum salts to get me through the next few days).*sigh*
I am coming through your area Sunday. If things go well it will be really really quick and I will be running from one terminal to the other. If it goes badly, I will give you a call because I have been stranded. *sigh* Thank you for making me think I have options.
