Celebrity cruises
May. 6th, 2014 02:08 pmWe have cruised twice on Celebrity Solstice. Both times we choose Aqua Class, for which I really bless T's foresight.
Why do I like and recommend the more expensive Aqua Class?
- The cabin has a longer-than-full-size couch. This may seem like a small thing, but I really liked putting my feet up longwise, and T sitting on the same couch as we watched TV or read.
- Shower nipples. The shower has a more traditional shower head, but little nipples that shoot water at different heights. I like to leave them on as I conserve water by turning off the shower head when doing things like putting in conditioner. I kinda want this in my next house.
- Movies on demand. There were a variety of movies on demand to watch any time. We watched at least five movies in a week and a half. I liked them being on our schedule.
- Fresh ice tea. I'm not a fan, but most days T finished the ice tea delivered to our room.
- Access to the Persian Garden. In the spa, there is a room with six heated tile reclining chairs facing a wall of glass (window). It is a quiet space, and the heat helps my calves recover from running. I find it really relaxing and spend at least half an hour there every day.
- Food. Aqua Class had its own dining room and menu. It is open for breakfast and dinner. We tried eating lunch in the regular dining room (not the buffet, I'm talking about the huge seated dining room). The food was slow (I was hungry and it took 1.5 hours for the main course to appear) and underwhelming. One lunch was so bad that afterward we went upstairs to the pool area and had hamburgers because we were still hungry. T sacrificed a great deal of sleep to make sure we made breakfast in our dining room. One morning dance-with-no-rules for even less impressive food in the buffet was more than enough.

Date: 2014-05-12 02:02 pm (UTC)Our cruise last fall had a whole 16 people on it. One dining room. There was a hottub that I never used and a social/living room that I didn't use much. We were too busy either out exploring or in the room decompressing/journaling the adventure.
