We are going to run in a zombie run. I've been training for a year, so we are DOING IT.

We will be in the 9:30am wave of Zombie Run Extreme on July 12th. I have even blocked out the two days surrounding it on my work calendar as "Not Traveling."

Remember last year? When I was training for the December zombie run? That work first booked over, then the vendor cancelled? Yeah. We are hoping to not repeat that experience. But I will say that booking the runner slots on my Discover Card makes me say really nice things about them -- Discover Card got my money back for me. Yay, Discover!

The current topics under discussion:

  • What shoes to wear during the race?

  • How to protect the car seats/floorboard from the huge amounts of mud we are likely to accumulate during the race?

Both of us typically run in near-barefoot. He wears Vibram five-fingers, and I wear Merrell barefoot. both are thin. And would likely make our feet soaking wet and utterly muddy. I'm pretty sure I do not want to run in more typical sneakers. But ruin my running shoes? Ugh.

And how to keep the car clean? T is thinking towels...And perhaps plastic bags for our shoes to ride home in.... Other ideas?

If you are willing to spend money, have you thought to buy disposable plastic seat covers? http://www.gabpauto.com/plastic-seat-covers That would help with containing mud that plastic sheeting might slip and let through.

Two gallon jugs of water, a washcloth, a small washpan, and flipflops - to ensure that you have clean feet and can safely and comfortably drive home.

Are you sure that running in the Merrells would ruin them? I thought they were completely washable.

Ooooh, I LIKE the seat covers and the two gallon jugs approach. Nice! Copying that down into the plan....

I'm not entirely sure running in either of our shoes would permanently ruin them. We wash both the Merrells and the Vibrams about once a month. But how much mud will really wash out? I don't know.

My default plan is to run in my Merrells, wash them, and hope for the best. We'll see what T decides to do.

let mud not stop you!

reedrover beat me to it. I think a quick rinse before then drying off a bit (and maybe bringing clothes into which to change) will allow you to not trash your car's insides. And bring different shoes to drive home in, and bags for the muddy stuff. I can't wait to hear about it! So cool!
