Wednesday morning
Feb. 19th, 2014 06:00 amHome is so close! And yet so far. Two more days teaching, then I get to go home.
I got to talk to T this morning. He made it home. By my calculations, it took him 32 hours to travel from here to there. 32 hours! And he said he only got 2 hours of sleep the entire time, poor man.
My trip will take a measly (by comparison only) 26 hours. And I will be going directly from a full day of work to the plane. On the nice side, this means I will hopefully have little trouble sleeping on the plane since my body will think it is past time to go to bed. On the bad side, packing will be a challenge. My backpack has to contain the clothes I actually want to wear on the plane (work clothes for 36 hours? Pass.), the stuff I will actually need and want on the plane (electronics, ID, food, money, pillows, drugs) and yet somehow carry to work the things I will need during my work day (instructor notes, certificates, awards for students, markers, remote mouse, clock, etc.). Ugh. I'm trying to think of a way to do a transfer to one of my suitcases between the end of my work day and the airport. I'm not sure that the Manila airport will have a bathroom that will be sufficient.... I cannot actually remember a bathroom last time I went through. Perhaps I can bring my carryon in from Bong's car to work in the morning...? Hmmm...
Oh, yeah, no carryon for the plane. Everything except my backpack must be checked. They have that stupid 15 lb (combined carryon!!!) limit (that they ENFORCE?!!?) for all Philippines Airlines flights. My backpack alone will be a huge challenge to get down that low. *sigh* This is why I carry a luggage scale with me on the long trips. Totally worth it.
