indigo_rose99My calendar has dates blocked out to travel to the Philippines. The Philippines! For 4 weeks (in 2 chunks). I've never been. But I understand it is hot. Likely with high humidity this time of year. Based on my experiences in China, I'm concerned about looking professional at work while not sweltering. Or dealing with clothes that I have sweated out. Ugh.
So I went shopping. I bought some insanely expensive shirts from Exofficio. They are supposed to look like business wear while still being quick-dry, working well in hot climates, and I can wash them in the sink after class and have them dry the next morning. So I pack 4-5 of them, and rewear them every week. Less luggage to pack.
I've been testing out my new shirts for the past week. I still think I paid too much, and I had to spend the time to sew in a hook between two buttons to make sure they do not show off my (beautiful, I'm sure, but unprofessional) bra to my students. Wearing an undershirt (my usual way of dealing with this problem) would defeat the whole purpose of buying shirts to wear in a hot climate. I want to be comfortable, not sweltering! The new shirts fit well, are comfortable and I think look reasonably professional. I have been scouring the internet and I hope I now have 3 more (overpriced!) versions of the same shirt in the same size on their way to me.

And today I got an email from the customer. The probability that this Philippines thing will happen has just gone up considerably. Last week I'd have given it about 40-50% chance. Today, I think it has an 85% chance of happening.
