On the drive home from my social gathering this evening, I remembered that T had told me a few weeks ago: our car needs new tires.
Of course, the time to remember this is NOT on the Interstate, 12 miles from home as the sky opens up and a solid sheet of water makes the fastest setting of my wiper blades irrelevant.
In Texas, when it rains there is a very good chance it will be a solid wall of water that is almost impossible to imagine without personally experiencing it. If you have never used the fastest setting of your wipers, you have never been in it. If you have never been on the fastest wiper setting and could not see the lane boundaries on what you would usually consider a perfectly well marked road.... you have never been in it. If you have never lost sight of the car only a few car lengths in front of you due to the wall of water.... you have never been in it.
I've seen it worse than this evening. But it was certainly bad enough to scare the bejeesus out of me.
I am OK. I am home. I made it. It will probably take me a while for the adrenaline to settle down.
Yes, I did slide. No, I didn't slide into another car. But that was probably more because I was going only about 40 mph (in a 70 zone) with very light traffic at almost midnight.
Luck. I had really really really good luck.
And we need new tires. We should take care of that sooner rather than later.
