I've been training for the zombie run in December.
For the past two months, things have not been going well. There has been less running and considerably more limping. In fact, it has gotten to the point that I am grateful on days I can walk almost normally. Over a week ago I broke down and went to a doctor. Today was the first day of The New Plan.
Let me tell you, The New Plan HURTS. First a nice looking doctor tells me to try to relax on the table while  he only uses his thumb on my left calf. ...He laughed when I told him my safe word. ...Yeah, that part was really not so funny.
First there was the burning. Then the feeling that a really dull spoon was digging 2 inches into my skin all the way up my leg... Then he got down to the Very Sharp Knives.
The doctor: "So as you get off the table, does your leg feel better?"
Me: "Oh, yes, because you are no longer touching me!"
Otherwise the lecture is pretty much the same as I get from massage therapists. Drink lots. Use the torture device shaped as a foam roller. Use a lacrosse ball (instead of my perfectly fine tennis ball?) inside the knee. stretch my ankle against a wall (I do not get this one. My ankle is fine!). Ice it 6 times a day. See them again in a few days.

I bet that ankle stretch is also a calf stretch.

From the stories I've heard, I'm still not a fan of any massage. I know some of it works well for you, but it all sounds scary to me.

Hope you're feeling better today (and not just because you don't have an appointment with the spoon-and-knife man.
