Pain

Two weeks ago, I thought my allergies were going haywire. It moved into a serious sore throat... A week ago, I went to the doctor because the 80 pound weight sitting on my cheekbones was (a) painful and (b) had turned into a full-blown infection.

She gave me antibiotics, and told me I would be 95% better by Friday.

The faceaches continued. I can live with the periodic sore throat, the coughing, the runny nose... But the continual level of pain was getting to me. I have trouble working in this much pain. My concentration, usually excellent, was shot. Hot showers and hot soaked washclothes were wonderful... But the relief only lasted 15 minutes at most! With heavy drugs, I could get through some of the day pain free, but I can't sleep with the drugs. When the hot shower wears off, I wake up because of the pain! Ugh. 3am. *facepalm*

So Friday I went back to the doctor. Not 95% better. Added a few new fun symptoms. Your next plan?

A more SERIOUS antibiotic. So, what, the first one was the baby version? This time she told me I would feel 80% better in 10 days. *roll eyes* Way to make sure I don't come back immediately, yes?

Yesterday at about 2pm, the pain stopped. I had an entire night of sleep pain-free. The relief was so enormous... I cannot even describe it.

The pain is drifting back now. *sigh* It was too good to last. Midday, I am swallowing more drugs.

But still... Things to be grateful for in life: Not in grinding, continuous pain.

Just a reminder.

Freedom from pain is a glorious thing, indeed.

This.

Also, remember, there are some "broad spectrum" antibiotics. They tend not to give you those first because they don't want you to develop a tolerance for them. I ran into what you did a few years ago.

Btw, have you thought about getting allergy testing and getting shots? I've had them for 4 months now, and it's made a HUUUGE difference in my life (e.g. no sinus infections, improved sleeping, etc).

I have been thinking about getting tested for allergies in a big picture kind of way. And if allergy shots are a possibility... I guess I want to know how serious my allergies are and how likely the allergy shots are to be successful. I know my brother did it in the 70s, when there was a very low likelihood of success. You and reedrover are both doing it...

Reedrover, are the shots helping?

Do either of you know if it makes a big difference what you are allergic to? As in, are the allergy shots more effective if you are allergic to mold than if you are allergic to cats? Not that I know I'm allergic to either, just asking.

I don't know if it makes a difference on what you're allergic to on the effectiveness. I'll ask my allergist next time I see her.
