Love and Easter
Apr. 4th, 2012 07:45 pmLosing T's mom hit the entire family hard. And some of the ways are subtle. She was a quiet but lovely force in the family. I'm still figuring out many of the things she did.
This last Christmas, I asked every member of his family what act or event was the IDEA of Christmas to them. Every single one of them brought up the cookies Mom used to make.
T brought up the Christmas tree shaped reese's peanut butter cups she gave him.
Evidently I was slow up on the update. It was January before I discovered that by not providing these Christmas tree shaped reese's peanut butter cups (which I personally always thought were Too Big and kinda nasty), Christmas had not properly happened for him.
Paying more attention after my blunder, I caught the Easter basket hint. Mom always made an Easter basket for T. Always. In later years, she made one for me, too. And after I went low carb, she started stocking it with dark chocolate (and one time this chocolate wine that was DIVINE). Mom was a truly wonderful lady.
So today, with the help of
livingdeb and
cartaufalous, I set out to make an Easter basket for T. No just buying the whole thing! I had to buy the pieces and put it together! Knowing he would be home when I got back, I wanted to be able to carry in the basket when I walked in the door. The three of us ended up standing the front of Target (after paying of course), ripping open plastic and tucking in items.
It was an Easter basket, with a sub theme of reese's peanut butter cups and Star Wars. Hey, it was a difficult balance!
Total. Win. He loved it. He seems impressed and amazed that it had chocolate, Star Wars and BEER. The beer was even still cold.
