The start of the book has an unusually good hook. I often have trouble getting into the first chapter of supposedly paranormal romance. I'm not actually sure this is a paranormal romance. Paranormal, yes. Adventure/mystery, yes. Romance, not so much.
This heroine is no more likable than most in this genre. But I REALLY like the world building.
The heroine works for the BAU (I'm a fan of the TV show Criminal Minds, so this snapped me in), profiling/chasing serial killers. She is in our world and lives the kind of life you would expect. In the first chapter she is kidnapped into an alternate world where, in general, most beings do not go crazy and they don't have serial killers. But now they have a killer, and the appropriate government agencies do not have the skills to deal with it. So, they brought in an expert.
I went looking for the 2nd book when I finished the first.
That said, when I went looking for the 2nd title, I discovered it is written by a guy. Which might go toward explaining why I don't really like the heroine.
