The red car turned left on to the interstate A LIGHT TOO SOON.

100 feet later, waiting at a light, there was a car in all four lanes. Which should have been a sign that he was going the wrong direction. A black Honda honked as he drove past,

I watched, as we legally mirrored his actions. The red car survived, in spite of the spectacularly bad judgment.

When I lived in Germany, I remember hearing the traffic reports on the radio mentioning a 'Geisterfahrer,' basically a ghost driver. This refers to someone doing what the red car you witnessed did, driving on the wrong side of the highway. Scary that it would happen frequently enough to have such a term. Maybe it's for adrenaline freaks (a quick peek on the 'net suggests this)? Anyway, I always thought that maybe this kind of thing happened more frequently in Europe because their entry/exit ramps are shorter. Dunno.

Glad the red car survived, though, and that no one was hurt!
