This morning I turned on my phone to two text messages,

Ardath Mayhar, science fiction writer, died early this morning. Her son even gave me a time. If a text can convey exhaustion, his did. Wiki link (updated to show her death Today. Creepy. Until I realized it was her other son.) The Ardath I remember.

And 10 minutes later, said the 2nd text, my new niece was born.

If I believed in reincarnation, this would be an awkward conversation with my in-laws about what to expect from their new daughter... Either way, I'm keeping a close eye on this one.

So sorry to hear about Ardath, but glad you had the opportunity to spend time with her just a few weeks ago. A bright star has gone out today. But I'm going to hope that maybe your new niece will indeed one day show an aptitude for writing amazing stories. Take care, and we'll see you and T soon.
