Hunger vs sleep
Jun. 7th, 2011 08:17 amFor the past 3-4 months, I have been having a burning sensation in the back of my throat. Not like a sore thoat. At first I took tums and it went away. I thought it was related to alcohol -- I always had it the day after I drank. Since I got back from our cruise, it has been almost continuous. I decided last week to go see a doctor.
In the past few months, I have also been having allergy problems. I take claritin regularly, but this defeated it. I've been using reedrover's allergy advice to breathe at night, but it has been tough. T complains every morning that he has to wade through a sea of dirty kleenex on the way to the bathroom. I'm a terrible shot at the trash can.
My last few dentist visits have been terrible. I do everything they tell me, and still my dentist yells at me. I'm up to flossing three times a day and using a water pick. *sigh*
Yes, I'm falling apart. I hate aging.
So I went to the doctor last Friday and he thought that all of these are symptoms of one problem. He implied it is fixable. He gave me drugs for a month and a series of directions.
No caffeine (my chocolate!), no tomato sauce, no onions, no nuts, no bell peppers.
Do not eat within four hours of going to bed.
I miss my chocolate, but it is the not eating within four hours of going to bed that is killing me.
T & my activities of interest on weekends often center around naps. Now imagine that we get up around 9am, must leave for dinner at 4pm with T's Dad, and want to go to bed at 8pm. And we want a 3 hour nap somewhere in the middle. Oh, and I cannot eat immediately upon waking -- I have to take a pill and wait 30 minutes. And don't forget to take into account the time it takes to actually EAT. Math not working for you? Yeah, it didn't work for me, either.
I believe the painkillers-don't-touch-this headache I had from about Sunday noon until Monday after breakfast was hunger. Actual persistent hunger. *sigh*
Weekdays are easier. Usually. I can eat and work. I just have to remember to take a meal at about 3:30pm and not eat again. You know I get up at 4:40am on weekdays, right? Yeah. So I aim for bed at 8pm.
Today and tomorrow will be awkward, though. I'm teaching a distance learning class noon until 4pm. Which means I eat lunch at about 11am. And then can do no more than sip liquid until after 4pm.
On the optimistic side, I suspect that I may lose weight during this month...I just hope this is until-I'm-fixed, not a lifestyle change.

Date: 2011-06-16 02:24 pm (UTC)I have read about raising the head of my bed. I'm hoping it will not come to that. I've been thinking about the difficult logistics...

Date: 2011-06-16 02:27 pm (UTC)He seems convinced it is me. I'm looking forward to telling him about what my doctor said. Perhaps they can put their heads together and not yell at me for failing to floss every 30 seconds. *sigh*
