I feel loved
Feb. 28th, 2015 01:27 pmI am spending a large chunk of every day on the phone. Phone calls with my family members, extended family members, and just my brother. This is part of the dealing with brother stuff.
I am reminding myself every day that I am not alone in this. While my brother does not have a support system that I can see, I have an excellent one. And my support system is standing up to do research for me. Only I can make these phone calls. But they can do research. It is truly wonderful. I am learning more each day as I am passing out questions. My team is totally staying on top of my questions.
Today I learned how to call 911 locally to my brother and request a wellness check.
Yesterday I learned where to find local-to-brother POA, Medical POA, Will, and Advanced Directive forms. And local lawyers contact information. I passed it all on to my brother. We'll see where he gets from there. Yes, if you read between the lines there and realized that he has nothing, HE HAS NOTHING. No planning done AT ALL. The crazy man thought he would live forever! He had told me verbally years ago that I am his executrix, but he had zero paperwork to back it up. I'm trying to gently make this paperwork HAPPEN. The will is for me after he dies. But the rest.... Ye gods, he must NEVER have talked to me about my stories on dealing with medical personnel! He needs someone on his side to make sure that they do what he wants even when he cannot speak for himself!
Two days ago I learned two really enticing options for how to ship stuff back from his state to Texas. I've accepted that I'm taking the large family heirlooms. The question was how to move them. I was having that uhaul-doom+driving-across-multiple-states feeling. My researcher came up with two alternative options that sound really much better and only a little more expensive. I feel a LOT better knowing about those options.
