snow shoes

I'd read about snowshoeing. I've seen pictures of snow shoes. But it turns out that all of the pictures were of old fashioned snowshoes.Modern snow shoes are quite different.  And they are easier to walk in than I'd anticipated. It was fun. And the lake was gorgeous. I desperately missed the camera I had left in the cabin.

The only truly strange part of snow shoeing was that we sank about a foot or so down with each step.  I had expected to walk on top of the snow. J explained that this kind of super dry light snow cannot bear our weight, thus we are packing it down with each step.
