warm feet

We have made the somewhat crazy decision to spend a week in a cabin in the cold cold North as part of our vacation plan. No internet, but lots of cold air.

T insisted that snow boots are a must. He had none and went shopping. I had some and pulled them out.... to discover that sitting on a shelf for 16 years is not good for whatevever they were made of. They started falling to pieces in my hands. I could have let a lovely black path anywhere I walked.

"I'll just wear my hike boots." I told T. He glowered in that way he has and started looking for snow boots for me. "No, sweetie, it is ok! My hike boots are perfectly comfortable." He muttered and kept making me try on snow boots at various stores. At long last he found a pair that he thought I could live with (same brand as my hike boots, Vasque) and I gave in. They arrived all new and pristine and T started asking me to break them in by wearing them around the house.

And then I discovered the strangest thing.

See, I've been COLD this season. Actually cold! After spending last "winter" in the Philippines, it has been lovely and exotic to pile on 3 shirts, a sweater, 2 pairs of pants, heavy fuzzy socks and slippers to work in every day. And then I'm still cold!  Don't be impressed -- the thermometer next to my desk says it is 68F. It is just me, not the house.

But then came the snow boots... And while wearing them I have found myself wearing... almost normal clothes around the house. I've been comfortable! Seemingly because my feet are warm, I am much warmer in general. So weird!

I thought we were supposed to wear hats to keep all our heat in.
