Saturday T told Pong (my driver) to take us to Rizal Park. We slathered on sunscreen and bug spray. Ugh. In the sun, we sweltered - it was probably in the 80s. In the shade it was ok.
I learned about the Philippines history, their heroes. The doctor who was martyred and pivotal in throwing out the Spanish in the late 1800s. Then of course we invaded....
We walked from the spot he died to where he was imprisoned at Fort Santiago. It was a darn long walk for a guy going to his execution!
Many expats we passed commented favorably on our Tilly hats. Hey, we know how to dress in sunny and humid!
Still, I am a terrible ambassador for my country. After 6 hours sweating in the sun, we were trying desperately to meet up with our driver. Five little boys stopped directly in front of me to gape. "Yes, we are white. Move along. Move along." Travis immediately chastised me, because he is a better person. And nicer. I swear, I just represent me, not my country! *shame face*
Sunday we decided to stay out of the sun.... Greenhills Mall is evidently known as a place to shop for pearls. I was in! Two hours in, I had spent all of my money and a chunk of T's. Mmmmmmm pearls.....
Oh, yes and we were lost in the mall with 5 minutes. Huge!!!
They are also known for their toy shops, which makes T happy. Toy stores!
T and I thought of ways to try to describe this mall. It has a grocery store. Parts of it were just like a US mall. But parts of it are like a huge flea market. With vendors pushing product into me at every step. I got tired of being touched and having my purse and shoes insulted in about 2.5 seconds. We tried to stay out of that section after the first bit. If you need an Armani shirt of questionable origin, we have the place for you.
