Why do they taunt me?

Type in my name, confirmation number, passport number twice, confirm I do not want to buy extra anything four times... And do I get a boarding pass? No.
"You must have a gate agent check your passport."
So I have to go through the line for my boarding pass at the airport.... Where no agent checked my possport, yet the boarding pass printed.
