I've been reading Jennifer Estep's Elemental Assassin series, starting with Spider's Bite. I got the first one for Christmas, and really liked it. Consider rereading kind of like. It has the somewhat typical female kick butt kind of protagonist in paranormal romance (light on the romance, more serious on the killing people), but unlike many similar ones, I was not bored from the beginning. There were no high heels. The main character struck me as practical from the first page.

I do think the series went somewhat downhill from the first book in quality. But I have to admire a series that clearly makes progress on a story. Questions raised in the first book are progressively answered in later books. Fun and not too deep.
