Friendship and True Love
Aug. 5th, 2007 11:40 pmWhy do I ever put myself in noisy crowded rooms filled with drunk crazy people? It can only be friendship and true love.
Today we parked early for the championship bout of the flat track roller derby. T bought us season passes which mostly went to our friends with my travel schedule. But this game... My friend "Q" had a decent chance of being in the bout, her team being up for the championship. We had dinner (very slow service, lots of alcohol) and walked over. The strip mall parking lot where we have dinner is inSANE about not allowing us to park. You'd think dinner would buy us a few hours, but nooooooo....
I felt very under-exercised, watching these women...
Going to the bathroom fell just short of my worst nightmare. On the positive side, it was relatively clean with toilet paper. On the bad side, the line was long, the woman in front of me encouraged her friend to break (behind her, in front of me), people of both genders kept touching me with the obvious expectation that it would be just fine with me, and the woman using my stall decided it would be fun to drop something that was not TP or a body product in the toilet as she left. So, to prevent it from clogging or further backup, I felt I had to fish it out... I wanted to wipe my hands on the people in line as I left, but I managed to restrain the urge.
Watching the spectators reminded me of... why I avoid football games. They were energetic, enthusiastic, and not afraid to stand up, run up to the sidelines and shout their opinions. Combining them with the amazingly loud speakers, I was very grateful for my earplugs. I have no idea how regular hearing people bear it.
This, this I tolerate only for friendship and true love.
