Hong Kong airport
Oct. 2nd, 2010 12:38 pmI think I officially hate Hong Kong airport. Not as much as Chicago airport, but still hate.
When I (and others on the plane) exited the boarding tube, we found ourselves in a hallway. No advice from airport employees possible, as no one was there. I followed the signs to "Transfer Information" thinking it would be an information desk. Foolish me. Much too late I figured out that was just a reference to the digital signs. I found that my flight leaves from Gate 44. No wing directions, no arrow, and there were absolutely no gates anywhere. I was in an arrivals-only section. I walked for ten minutes (OK maybe less, lovely conveyor belts) and went to transfer station E1 (vs E2, slightly farther away). There were desk for many airlines, but not mine. I went to a quiet desk and asked. She told me "Go to Transfer Station W1." She gestured back in the direction I had come.
Of course.
And that was when I discovered two things:
(1) Hong Kong airport goes on for MILES
(2) The people conveyors? ALL of them set to go in the other direction.
*sigh*
But my frustration did not end there! After acquiring my boarding pass and going through security, I heard the ghostly voice of my husband telling me to "Eat something!" I went looking for food. The flight here translated 'diabetic meal' to a large warmed bread roll with vegetables inside and sweetened apple drink (Everyone else presumably got something else in their bread.). Uh, no.
I have no Hong Kong dollars. That eliminated something small I could just pick up and carry. I found restaurants in a nice food court. I'm sure they would accept a credit card. If I could get them to give me some food! I walked through all the restaurants I could find. Then I walked back through in the other direction. I walked up to what looked like hostess desks. Perhaps people just sit down and the food appears? There was one busy line, but it seemed to be only in Chinese, for Chinese people. I really tried, but I could not get food.
Or water. The only human I managed to ask insisted that the tap water is not drinkable and I must buy a bottle of water. *sigh* No local cash, so....
I ate a food bar dry. I so hate this airport.
