A candle

My hotel room smells.  It always hits me when I enter the room. Not like dead things, but... not a good smell.  Bleh.  Today it smelled like cigarettes, I'm not sure why.  Non smoking room, non smoking floor.

In the extra things I was able to pack for this trip, I brought a candle.  Yes, I have encountered this problem before.

But now my problem is lighting it.  I don't have two sticks or flint... And of course I could not bring matches or a lighter.  *sigh* Stupid airlines.

I called the concierge.  MuchChinese.  "Do you speak English?"

"No."

"Could you give me someone who does?"

MutteredChinese.

A new voice spoke, "May I help you?" in a perfect American accent.  I almost cried.  I explained my request -- I want to light my candle -- and he said, "I will send up a lighter."

YES!  Sometimes it is the small things.

When I was in the airport last week there were TSA signs describing acceptable lighters vs. unacceptable ones. Maybe that's just for domestic travel though? I know knitting needles are A-OK by TSA but not always internationally. Glad you could get your candle lit!

It's ALWAYS the small things.

Big things are only small things we've given priority :)

I know how you feel, but I don't think Maryland is that different of a country, although it feels like it :) I'll be blogging about my travel fun tonight. I'm glad you were able to get a candle. *hug*
