"I'd like a latte latte."
Aug. 3rd, 2006 07:24 pmShe gave me a blank look. The guy next to her said over his shoulder, "Milk."
Her expression lightened up, "Steamed?" She just wasn't getting the whole I just want a stupid glass of milk! How difficult could this possibly be?! concept.
"No, cold is fine."
It took us 4 blocks and about 30 restaurants, cafes, and food courts before we found the Starbucks for my milk. *sigh* Perhaps her surprise at my request was simply a reflection of how how little people around here drink milk.

(2) Milk is not on their menu. Or as a bottle in their drink case. Latte is on their menu. In one form or another. And everyone pretty much orders a variation on what is already on the menu. So, variation is the norm (I just HAD to say that. *grin*).
(3) I was afraid that if I ordered a word that was nowhere on her menu, she would just deny me outright. "No, sorry, we don't carry that." Which is what we had been hearing in shop after food court after cafe after kiosk.
We had gotten to the giggly stage of it feeling like "Quest for the Mighty Sword", but you know... for milk. Everything felt too silly. I mean, how can So Many Places not have... milk?!
